I spent the 4th of July with my folks in Eugene, Oregon this year. We started the day by doing the Butte-to-Butte Mayor's fitness walk, which is a 4.5 mile walk from near Spencer's Butte to Skinner's Butte. My dad walked it for the first time last year and had been training for it for the entire year since then. I told him I would be walking it with him this year, and it was so great to share this with him. He came in first in his division of 80-99 year old males. He'll be 83 in a couple of weeks. We averaged just over 15 minutes per mile, which is pretty good for an octogenarian, eh? It's not too bad for this middle-aged mom, either.
