Bonnie Klein invited a bunch of woodturners over for a party. It was the perfect way to give Dennis and Gigi a send-off back to South Africa.
Some of the turners in attendance (from memory at this point) included: Bill Luce, Michael Werner, Gorst duPlessis, Sally, John Magill, and several others whose names escape me at the moment.
The view from Bonnie's deck is amazing with Mt. Rainier dominating the landscape.
It was getting a bit chilly toward sunset so Robert started a fire in the custom firepit.
This was a fuel tank that Bonnie and Robert cut apart to make into a fire pit. What a cool idea, but I bet it was scary putting a torch to a fuel tank.
Near the back of the house is some exposed bedrock with some glacial grooves. Wow - is that cool, or what?
It was really great to have a get together at Bonnie's. Everyone had a good time and it was a nice way to end the three week trip with Dennis and Gigi.
7 July 2007. The sad part about the party was that the Laidlers were heading home the next day. This is our going away pic - right before Steve and I drove Dennis and Gigi to the airport.
L to R: Steve, Meghan, Anne and Dick (Steve's mom and dad), Gigi, Dennis.
This was the sad part for me - saying goodbye. The good news is that I do travel to South Africa every other year or so, which means I'll be seeing them again.
Dennis and Gigi have been home for a couple of months now, but it seems like we were on vacation just a few days ago. What a fun holiday we all had.

poor Emma --
she must have been pulling her hair with worry since her family had deserted her!
has she forgiven you yet?
Yes - she forgave us, but only after thoroughly cleaning our faces with her tongue (not a disgusting as it sounds, coming from a miniature dachshund). I'll post some updates on her blog soon.
