Jack-of-all-trades, master of some pretty much describes my life. This blog has several themes: wood turning, photography, travel, science, fieldwork, family, friends, music, and miscellaneous things I encounter. I hope you enjoy it - feel free to leave a comment to let me know you've been here.

Snowflake
This is my first attempt at doing macrophotography of a snowflake. It's not an easy thing to do.
Setup:
Sport glove, left out in the cold for 10 min
Canon 5D III
Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8 L lens
Canon twin flash
What I learned:
Snowflakes are tiny!
I need to get an extension tube to get closer to a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio next time.
My fingers get cold when working in subfreezing temps.....

Snow study
From the old jalopy at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. We've had snow three weekends in a row. This is from January 26, 2013. The tires of the jalopy had a lovely blanket of snow for a detail shot.

ICM. Snowy Day
Intentional Camera Movement; vertical pan. 1/20 f22 ISO 200 35 mm
Last weekend's excursion to Sharon Woods. We've been having such strange winter weather this year. We've had snow for the past three weekends, but temps have been in the 60's for part of each of the last two weeks. So, we get some snow, then it rains, then the sun melts it all away, and then the cycle begins again. Weird.
